New York – The United Nations has voiced its concern regarding the ongoing violations by Israel of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. These violations include breaches of the ceasefire and continued activities within the Area of Separation, undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.
Speaking at a daily press briefing in New York on Tuesday, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that Israel continues its violations within Syrian territory. He urged Israel to adhere to its obligations under the Disengagement Agreement, including ceasing all unauthorized presence in the Area of Separation and limiting weaponry.
Dujarric reiterated the UN’s commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Syria. He emphasized the importance of all parties respecting the terms of the Disengagement Agreement to maintain stability in the region.
The Disengagement Agreement, signed in 1974, established a buffer zone between Syrian and Israeli forces following the Yom Kippur War. The UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) monitors the ceasefire and the Area of Separation.
The United Nations has consistently called for all parties to respect the Disengagement Agreement and refrain from any actions that could escalate tensions. The ongoing violations are a source of significant concern, potentially jeopardizing the fragile stability in the region.
