Desert Warriors Begin Arab Cup Title Defense vs. Sudan

Doha, Qatar – The Algerian national team, Les Fennecs, embark on their quest to defend their Arab Cup title today against Sudan. The match marks the first round of group stage play in the tournament, which kicked off this past Monday in Doha.

The Desert Warriors finalized their preparations with a final training session last night, with the majority of the squad participating. Coach Madjid Bougherra’s men are eager to secure a victory, setting a strong tone for their campaign and paving the way for a successful title defense, reminiscent of their 2021 triumph.

Addressing the press yesterday, Bougherra acknowledged the challenge posed by Sudan. “We are happy to be back in Qatar,” he stated. “We are ready to enter the Arab competition in the best possible way.” He added, “There is no added pressure. We expect anything in this tournament. As I said in the 2021 edition, when the tournament starts, everyone is a contender, and every match is like a final.”

The match will be officiated by Egyptian referee Amin Omar. He will be assisted by Mahmoud Abou El Regal and Ahmed Tawfik Taleb. Christian Garay from Chile will serve as the fourth official, with his compatriot Claudio Urrutia as the reserve assistant referee. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be manned by Swiss official Fedayi San, assisted by Brazilian Rodolfo Toski.

Algeria aims for a strong start in their title defense, hoping to replicate their previous success in the Arab Cup and showcase their talent on the regional stage.
