Algiers, December 3, 2025 – Joint detachments of the People’s National Army, in coordination with various security services, have thwarted a major drug smuggling operation attempting to bring nearly 20 tons of processed cannabis into the country across the border with Morocco. The operation, conducted across several military districts, also resulted in the apprehension of 30 drug traffickers.
According to a statement released by the People’s National Army, authorities seized 19,930 kilograms of processed cannabis. In addition to the cannabis, law enforcement confiscated 1,425,734 psychotropic tablets.
Beyond drug-related offenses, army detachments apprehended 344 individuals involved in various illegal activities. These operations led to the seizure of 29 vehicles, 244 generators, and 133 jackhammers, alongside quantities of raw gold ore and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Illizi, and Djanet.
In separate operations, 14 individuals were arrested, and authorities seized a Kalashnikov submachine gun, seven hunting rifles, and 103,300 liters of fuel. Furthermore, 2.5 tons of tobacco and 10 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation were confiscated.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard successfully intercepted several attempts at illegal migration along the national coastline, rescuing 63 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Authorities also detained 270 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities across the country.
These operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the People’s National Army and security services to combatting organized crime and protecting national borders.
