Algiers, Algeria – The Port of Algiers has significantly enhanced its operational capacity with the addition of six new Cavalier Gerbeur container handling machines. This acquisition, finalized on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, marks a key step in the port’s ongoing modernization program.
The new equipment is specifically designed for efficient container stacking and is expected to substantially improve the port’s throughput and overall productivity. This investment aligns with the national strategy to modernize Algerian ports and reflects the vision of the President to enhance the country’s infrastructure.
The arrival of these machines follows directives from the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saioud, who has emphasized the importance of improving port operational performance and streamlining trade flows. Previous investments in modern forklifts have already contributed to improved handling processes and reduced congestion at the docks.
This strategic upgrade is projected to reduce vessel turnaround times, optimize loading and unloading operations, and strengthen the Port of Algiers’ competitive position within the region and internationally. The ongoing fleet renewal program underscores the Ministry’s commitment to transforming Algerian ports into modern logistics hubs capable of meeting the demands of contemporary maritime trade and supporting the national economy.
The Port of Algiers is a vital gateway for Algerian trade, and these improvements are expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economic growth by facilitating smoother and more efficient import and export activities.
