DOHA, Qatar – Algeria’s national B team secured a valuable point in their opening match of the Arab Cup Qatar 2025, drawing against Sudan on Wednesday. The match, a Group D encounter, proved to be a true test of resilience for Madjid Bougherra’s squad.
Despite playing the entire second half with ten men following Adam Ounas’s late first-half red card, the Algerian team displayed remarkable composure to secure a draw that felt like a victory, showcasing their fighting spirit and determination.
Les Verts started the match strongly, dominating possession in the first half and creating several scoring opportunities. Soufiane Bendebka’s header in the 9th minute, Adel Boulbina’s shot in the 24th minute, and Redouane Berkane’s dangerous attempt in the 25th minute were all thwarted by the Sudanese goalkeeper.
Ounas’s dismissal before halftime shifted the momentum, prompting Sudan to take the initiative in the second half. However, the Algerian defense stood firm, led by their central defensive pairing and the outstanding goalkeeper, Farid Chaâl, who proved to be an impenetrable barrier against Sudanese attacks.
Coach Madjid Bougherra sought to reinforce the team’s balance by introducing experienced players such as Youcef Atal, Islam Slimani, and Amir Sayoud, aiming to absorb the pressure and reorganize the lines. Despite these changes and a tense tactical battle, the score remained unchanged.
This draw earns Algeria a crucial point, strengthening their position in the competition and keeping their qualification hopes alive as they continue their quest to defend their Arab Cup title.
