Qatar Charity Launches Emergency Food Aid Project in Yemen

Doha, Qatar – Qatar Charity has initiated an emergency project aimed at combating food insecurity in Yemen, providing crucial assistance to thousands of families facing the threat of famine. The initiative, launched in coordination with the Food Security Cluster and local authorities, seeks to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable populations, including displaced persons and other at-risk groups.

The project is currently underway in the Taiz Governorate, targeting 1,780 families. Plans are in place to expand the program to the Al Hudaydah Governorate, reaching a similar number of families. In total, the project aims to support approximately 25,000 individuals.

The core objective is to deliver essential food supplies amidst what is widely considered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Each family will receive a food basket containing vital staples such as wheat, rice, sugar, oil, and legumes. These supplies are designed to meet the nutritional needs of a family for approximately four and a half months.

This intervention comes at a critical juncture, particularly following the withdrawal of several international organizations and the suspension of various aid programs. This reduction in support has significantly heightened the risk of famine across several Yemeni governorates. Qatar Charity’s commitment underscores its dedication to alleviating suffering and providing essential resources to those most in need.

Yemen has been grappling with a devastating humanitarian crisis for over a decade, exacerbated by conflict that has crippled infrastructure and deprived families of their livelihoods. Compounding these challenges are climate-related disasters that have severely impacted the agricultural sector, pushing millions to the brink of starvation. Qatar Charity remains committed to providing vital assistance in the face of this ongoing crisis.
