Algeria and South Africa Strengthen Ties During Official Visit

Algiers, Algeria – Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received Alvin Botes, the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, at the Ministry headquarters on Thursday. The visit underscores the deepening cooperation between the two nations.

According to a statement released by the Ministry, Deputy Minister Botes’ visit to Algeria is primarily to represent South Africa at the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, also known as the ‘Oran Process.’ The seminar is scheduled to take place in Algeria on December 1st and 2nd, 2025.

During their discussions, both parties expressed satisfaction with the growing pace of cooperation between the two countries. They specifically highlighted the implementation of outcomes from the recent session of the Joint High Commission, which was held in Algeria under the joint chairmanship of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Furthermore, both officials emphasized the alignment of their countries’ positions on just causes at the continental and international levels. Particular attention was given to the Palestinian cause and the issue of Western Sahara, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the established United Nations doctrine on decolonization.

The meeting signifies the ongoing efforts by Algeria and South Africa to strengthen their bilateral relationship and collaborate on key regional and global issues.
