Algiers – A court in Bir Mourad Rais issued its verdict today in the case against journalist Saad Bouakba and Abdelhalim Haraoui, manager of the “Ru’ya” platform.
The court sentenced Bouakba to a three-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of one million Algerian dinars. Haraoui received a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 500,000 Algerian dinars. The court also ordered the permanent closure of the “Ru’ya” platform and the confiscation of all its equipment.
These verdicts follow Bouakba’s appearance in court last week under immediate appearance procedures, related to charges of “insulting symbols of the revolution.”
The trial was adjourned until today’s session following statements made by the journalist regarding the fate of funds belonging to the National Liberation Front (FLN). The daughter of the late President Ahmed Ben Bella considered these statements to be offensive to her father, prompting her to file a legal complaint.
