Algiers – Ooredoo Algeria has officially launched its 5G network, marking a strategic step towards bolstering the nation’s digital economy. The announcement was made during a formal launch event where Ooredoo unveiled its promotional campaign, themed ‘Born for 5G’. This launch culminates two decades of investment and development in network upgrades and service quality enhancements, all aimed at modernizing Algeria’s digital infrastructure.
The launch follows the final approval from the Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority regarding the 5G network operating terms, issued on November 26, 2025. It also follows a series of technical tests confirming the network’s readiness, adhering to the highest international standards.
Rony Tohme, General Manager of Ooredoo Algeria, emphasized that the 5G launch transcends the mere introduction of a new technology. He stated that it represents a long-term commitment to Algeria and its citizens. ‘We have reached a new stage of competitiveness and innovation,’ Tohme said. ‘We are committed to ensuring our customers’ 5G experience meets the highest international standards. Our entry into this advanced world follows significant investments and continuous technical efforts to guarantee a stable and robust network, ready for the future of advanced digital services.’
Tohme added that 5G represents a genuine economic lever, opening vast opportunities for investment and innovation. It empowers institutions and vital sectors to transition towards more efficient and flexible production models, aligning with national aspirations for a knowledge-based economy.
Ooredoo announced a phased rollout, commencing with the eight provinces initially planned for the first year, with Algiers, Oran, Constantine, and Setif leading the initial phase. Access to the 5G network will be automatic and without additional cost, with all existing offers compatible with the technology. Current USIM 4G cards will enable users to directly benefit from 5G without needing to replace their SIM cards.
