Air Algérie is embarking on a new phase of growth, projecting a record 8.5 million international passengers in 2025. This ambitious target underscores a significant transformation for the national airline and its role in Algeria’s international connectivity.
According to Air Algérie’s CEO, Hamza Benhamouda, this surge is directly linked to a substantial increase in flight frequency. The airline operated over 320 daily flights during the summer of 2025, a considerable leap from the 230 flights offered during the same period last year.
In 2024, Air Algérie transported approximately 8 million passengers. Benhamouda stated that the company aims to surpass this figure by optimizing its international network and capitalizing on increased demand during peak tourist seasons. The domestic branch of Air Algérie is also projected to carry 1.5 million passengers in 2025, indicating a strong resurgence in domestic air travel.
Industry observers note that this consistent rise in passenger numbers marks Air Algérie’s evolution from a ‘basic service’ to a ‘strategic economic player’ within Algeria’s air transport ecosystem. Increased operational capacity strengthens the country’s position as a regional hub, fostering tourism and investment, particularly amid growing competition within Africa and the Mediterranean.
Acknowledging some operational challenges experienced during the busy summer period, Benhamouda emphasized that the ongoing fleet renewal program is crucial for minimizing disruptions and enhancing service reliability. The arrival of new aircraft will gradually address these issues, ensuring improved punctuality and a better overall travel experience for passengers.
Air Algérie is also committed to offering competitive fares and promotional deals, particularly for the Algerian diaspora, without compromising safety standards. The airline’s focus remains on providing affordable and reliable air travel options while contributing to Algeria’s economic growth and international standing.
