Algiers, December 4, 2025 – The National Gendarmerie’s Research and Investigation Unit in Cheraga has successfully dismantled a sophisticated international criminal network specializing in the smuggling and illegal importation of narcotics and various types of psychotropic substances.
According to a statement released by the National Gendarmerie, the operation was launched following intelligence received by the Research and Investigation Unit. Through diligent intelligence gathering, intensified investigations, and the utilization of specialized investigative techniques, authorities were able to identify the members of the network and their locations.
The operation involved coordinated movements across several provinces within the country, executed in close collaboration with the relevant judicial authorities. This multi-jurisdictional approach proved crucial in apprehending the suspects and seizing the illicit substances.
The operation resulted in the arrest of ten individuals, including one woman. A significant number of those arrested have prior criminal records and were subject to outstanding arrest warrants. Law enforcement officials seized a substantial quantity of psychotropic drugs, including 16,921 Pregabalin 300mg capsules and 14 Ketile tablets.
In addition to the narcotics, authorities confiscated nineteen passenger vehicles, two trucks, a sum of 340,000 Algerian Dinars believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, and several mobile phones.
The suspects will be presented before the competent regional judicial authorities upon completion of all legal procedures. This successful operation underscores the National Gendarmerie’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and maintaining public safety throughout the country.
