Algiers, Algeria – Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning, Said Saayoud, presented a draft law concerning the country’s regional organization to the National Assembly’s Committee on Legal and Administrative Affairs, Human Rights, Local Organization, Land Management, and Regional Division on Thursday.

The proposed legislation aims to amend and supplement Law No. 84-09, dated February 4, 1984, which governs the regional organization of Algeria. Minister Saayoud detailed the key aspects of the bill, emphasizing its importance in streamlining administrative processes and promoting balanced regional development across the nation.

The presentation before the parliamentary committee marks a significant step in the legislative process. The committee members engaged in a thorough discussion with the Minister, raising questions and offering suggestions for refining the proposed law. The focus of the discussion centered on ensuring the bill’s effectiveness in addressing current regional disparities and fostering greater economic opportunity in all parts of the country.

DZWatch understands that the amendments proposed in the draft law address several key areas, including the delineation of administrative boundaries, the allocation of resources to different regions, and the mechanisms for inter-regional cooperation. The overarching goal is to create a more efficient and equitable system of regional governance that supports sustainable development and improves the quality of life for all Algerian citizens.

The committee is expected to conduct further deliberations on the bill before submitting its recommendations to the full National Assembly for consideration. The passage of this law could bring about significant changes to Algeria’s regional landscape and have a lasting impact on the country’s development trajectory.
