Algeria’s LAMO Exports Over 5,000 Tons of Iron Products

ORAN, Algeria – The Algerian Iron and Steel Processing Company of the West (LAMO), located in Bethioua, Oran province, has exported over 5,300 tons of various iron products this year, DZWatch has learned.

According to Commercial Manager Abbou Aissa Ihsane, the Algerian-Turkish partnership has conducted nine export operations since the beginning of the year. These shipments, totaling 5,300 tons, included flat and round iron, among other products. The exports originated from the ports of Oran, Arzew, and Mostaganem, destined for countries in Africa, Europe, and North America, including Tunisia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Greece, and the United States.

The total value of these exports reached $6 million, Ihsane stated. Further export operations are planned for December, with approximately 3,000 tons of iron products scheduled to be shipped to various African and European nations.

LAMO, which commenced operations in March 2023, has an annual production capacity of 220,000 tons of various iron derivatives and employs 300 workers. Ihsane attributed the company’s export success to the government’s incentive measures aimed at diversifying the economy beyond hydrocarbons. These measures include customs facilities and improvements in port operations, which have significantly contributed to the growth of export activities.

DZWatch will continue to monitor Algeria’s efforts to expand its non-hydrocarbon exports.
