El Tarf, Algeria – Minister Delegate in charge of the Supreme Council for Youth, Moustafa Hidaoui, inaugurated the Youth Ecological Marathon on Friday at Lake Tonga in El Kala, El Tarf province. The event coincided with the celebration of International Volunteer Day, observed annually on December 5th.
The marathon, designed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote youth engagement in ecological initiatives, saw participation from young people across the province. Hidaoui, speaking at the launch, emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and the role of young people in safeguarding Algeria’s natural resources.
“This marathon is not just a sporting event; it is a powerful symbol of our commitment to protecting our environment and empowering our youth to become active agents of change,” Hidaoui stated. He further highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting youth-led initiatives that contribute to sustainable development.
The event featured various activities alongside the marathon, including workshops on environmental awareness, tree planting sessions, and exhibitions showcasing local environmental projects. The Ministry of Youth aims to use events like these to foster a sense of responsibility among young Algerians towards their environment and to encourage them to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
The choice of Lake Tonga as the venue underscores the importance of preserving Algeria’s diverse ecosystems. The lake, a vital habitat for various species of birds and other wildlife, serves as a reminder of the need for collective action to protect the country’s natural heritage.
