African Union Commends Algeria’s Role in Infrastructure Development for the Continent

In a significant meeting today, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rakhroukh, welcomed Nardos Bekelle Thomas, the Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency. This gathering took place on the sidelines of the 20th African-North European Foreign Ministers Meeting.

The Ministry issued a statement highlighting the fruitful discussions held during this encounter. Both parties explored avenues to strengthen their cooperation in the fields of public works and infrastructure.

The Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency praised Algeria’s pivotal role and its support for enhancing and developing the infrastructure of African countries. She specifically noted Algeria’s constructive commitments in the field of infrastructure development.

Minister Rakhroukh elaborated on Algeria’s efforts to improve infrastructure, particularly in programs related to railways, while simultaneously advancing road construction projects.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized Algeria’s extensive experience in infrastructure development and its readiness to contribute to the creation of effective mechanisms for further development. Algeria’s aim is to move toward achieving the principle of economic integration within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The Minister also highlighted Algeria’s contributions to regional economic integration through the realization of structured, continent-spanning projects, such as the Trans-Saharan Highway and the road linking Algeria and Mauritania. These ambitious projects are expected to stimulate and boost trade exchanges among African nations.

This collaboration between Algeria and the African Union is poised to create a brighter and more interconnected future for the African continent.
