Global Grain Production Forecast to Surpass 3 Billion Tons

Global grain production is projected to exceed 3 billion tons in 2025, marking an unprecedented milestone. This represents a substantial 4.9% increase compared to the 2024 harvest, according to recent projections.

The anticipated surge in overall production is largely attributed to favorable wheat crop forecasts across several key regions, notably Australia and Argentina. Expansion of cultivated areas coupled with record yields are expected to drive a historically significant harvest.

Wheat production is also expected to increase in Europe and the United States. Furthermore, production of coarse grains, such as barley, is also predicted to rise. Rice crops are projected to experience growth as well, with an anticipated increase of 1.6%.

In related news, global food prices experienced a decline in November, continuing a downward trend for the third consecutive month. This decrease is primarily driven by abundant production. The Food Price Index decreased by 1.2% during the month, falling to a level 2.1% lower than in November 2024 and approximately 22% below its peak recorded in March 2022.

According to the report, grain prices showed a slight increase of 1.3% during the month, driven by a 2.5% rise in wheat prices.
