Petkovic: Fennecs Ready for 2026 World Cup Challenge

Following the 2026 World Cup draw, which placed Algeria in Group C alongside Argentina, Austria, and Jordan, national team coach Vladimir Petkovic has affirmed the team’s readiness to face all competitors and strive for optimal results.

Speaking to DZWatch, Petkovic described the draw as “very exciting.” He noted, “Argentina leads the group and is the top contender. The other teams will compete for second place, which will truly define the competition’s path.”

The coach emphasized that “facing Argentina will be a significant challenge, and we will aim to exploit this match to the fullest to achieve the best possible outcome in the subsequent two games.”

Regarding the other teams, Petkovic stated, “Austria is a strong team with good experience and capabilities. Jordan has shown remarkable development recently and performed surprisingly well. Therefore, we must remain focused. The group is balanced, and there’s an opportunity to achieve outstanding results and break records.”

“Facing Argentina will undoubtedly be a difficult match against a world-class team,” Petkovic added. “The motivation is inherent when facing such significant teams. However, we mustn’t focus solely on that. Our primary goal now is to succeed in the African Cup of Nations. After that, we will begin preparing together to compete in the World Cup with full strength and readiness.”

The coach affirmed that the national team will work to maximize every match in the group while maintaining focus and discipline to reach the second round and achieve its goals in the tournament. Algeria aims for a strong showing in the 2026 World Cup. Preparation will be key to success.
