DZWatch Exclusive: Argentina’s coach, Lionel Scaloni, has commented on the World Cup 2026 draw, which placed the reigning champions in Group 10 alongside Algeria, Jordan, and Austria. Scaloni emphasized the respect his team holds for all their opponents in the group.
Speaking shortly after the draw, Scaloni highlighted Algeria’s strengths. “Algeria is a strong team,” he stated. “They have talented young players, many of whom play in France and other European leagues.”
The Argentinian coach also acknowledged the challenge posed by Austria, recognizing their impressive performance during the European qualifiers. He described them as a difficult opponent. Regarding Jordan, Scaloni admitted that they are the team he knows the least about in the group.
Scaloni stressed the importance of entering the tournament with unwavering focus. “We need to give our absolute best to ensure qualification for the second round,” he asserted. The Argentinian squad will begin their title defense against Algeria, followed by matches against Austria and Jordan. It’s worth noting that Argentina suffered a shocking defeat to Saudi Arabia (2-1) in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup, a result they will be keen to avoid repeating.
DZWatch will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of the World Cup 2026 draw and the Algerian national team’s preparations.
