Damascus, Syria – Israeli military forces conducted an incursion into the vicinity of Beit Jinn, a town in the Damascus countryside, on Saturday. This latest action follows escalating tensions in the area, marking a continued violation of Syrian sovereignty.
According to reports, the Israeli forces fired shots in an apparent attempt to intimidate local shepherds and displace them from the area. This incident occurs just eight days after a deadly aerial bombardment of Beit Jinn, which resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians and left dozens injured. The earlier attack followed a brief incursion and clashes with residents who attempted to resist the Israeli advance, reportedly inflicting injuries on six Israeli soldiers.
Sources on the ground indicate that the Israeli force, consisting of tanks and armored vehicles, advanced towards a strategic intersection between Beit Jinn and several villages in the Quneitra region. This incursion disrupted traffic and further destabilized the already volatile area.
Reports also indicate that similar Israeli incursions took place in other towns in the Quneitra region on Friday. These actions are part of a broader pattern of Israeli military activity in southern Syria.
Since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, Israeli forces have increasingly conducted incursions and airstrikes within Syrian territory. These operations have resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of military infrastructure.
Israel unilaterally declared the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria, while Damascus demands an end to what it considers violations of its territorial integrity. Efforts to reach a new security arrangement, mediated by the United States, have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. These talks aimed to secure an Israeli withdrawal from the Syrian buffer zone occupied since December 2024.
The situation remains tense, with the potential for further escalation.
