DOHA – The 23rd edition of the Doha Forum commenced today in the Qatari capital, drawing heads of state, experts, diplomats, and high-level representatives from across the globe. The event was inaugurated with the presence of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
In his opening address, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, emphasized that the challenges facing the region are intrinsically linked to a global decline in respect for international law. He asserted that justice is often absent from the application of international legal principles and that only equitable solutions can foster sustainable peace worldwide.
“Our world is witnessing an unprecedented escalation of crises due to a lack of accountability,” the Prime Minister stated, underscoring the urgent need to restore faith in the law and establish a more just international system. He added, “The world does not need more promises, but rather a justice that translates words into actions,” highlighting that the absence of accountability is a critical flaw in the current global order.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani further emphasized the necessity for justice to be applied universally, without double standards. He affirmed that Qatar’s policies are impartial and prioritize the well-being of humanity. He reiterated that mediation is not merely a political luxury for Qatar, but a deeply ingrained approach, rooted in the belief that justice is not only a political objective but also a cornerstone of international law.
The Prime Minister announced that Qatar, in collaboration with its partners, has successfully brokered a breakthrough between Colombia and the EMC, demonstrating the capacity of responsible mediation to protect civilians.
Addressing the situation in Gaza during a forum session, the Prime Minister stated that a complete ceasefire can only be achieved with Israel’s withdrawal from the territory. He affirmed that negotiations are ongoing to chart a course for the next phase.
Over 6,000 participants are attending the Doha Forum 2025.
