Algeria Hosts Key African Startup Conference

Algiers is hosting the fourth edition of the African Startup Conference, bringing together key players in the African innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The conference, which commenced today, Saturday, will see wide participation from official delegations and startup representatives from approximately 35 African countries. The theme for this year’s event is “Supporting the Emergence of African Champions.”

This economic gathering, held in Algeria for the fourth consecutive year under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is considered a crucial continental platform for startups, recognizing their growing importance in African economic development.

President Tebboune recently emphasized the significance of this event during a cabinet meeting, describing it as a “vital artery connecting African countries with the world.” He highlighted that “the orientation towards a startup economy, based on an African-African partnership, is the most successful model for building a strong and diversified economy, with science as its foundation and Algeria as its incubator.”

Organized by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises, and the public accelerator “Algeria Venture,” the conference at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center will feature 25,000 participants, over 35 ministerial delegations, more than 200 exhibitors from Africa and beyond, and over 300 international experts. Rwanda is participating as the guest of honor.

The event will also involve over 150 investors, a significant number of project owners, incubators, entrepreneurs from the African diaspora, representatives of international organizations, and global innovation activists.

The conference is expected to highlight the successes of “African champions” who have built businesses achieving substantial turnover and contributing to real economic development. Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, previously stated that this international meeting is “a fundamental element of the vision for Algerian and African innovation.” He added that participants will discuss “frankly and pragmatically the issues related to innovation and project financing,” addressing crucial topics for the sector’s advancement.
