EU Official: US Remains Europe’s Most Important Ally Despite Criticism

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s top foreign policy official, stated on Saturday that the United States remains Europe’s most significant ally, despite recent criticisms leveled against European institutions in a new US security strategy.

Speaking at the Doha Forum, Kallas responded to questions regarding the new American security strategy released by Washington. While acknowledging the criticisms contained within the strategy, she stated, “Of course, there are a lot of criticisms, but I think some of them are correct.”

“The United States is still our biggest ally,” Kallas emphasized. “We don’t always agree on different issues, but the logic is the same, and we are the biggest allies and should stay united.”

The US administration recently published a new national security strategy centered around the “America First” approach. This strategy has drawn attention for its sharp critique of European allies, suggesting that the United States will support those who oppose the values promoted by the EU, particularly concerning immigration policies.

The strategy reportedly calls for fostering “resistance” within Europe and condemns what it describes as the suppression of free speech and political dissent. It also points to Europe’s declining share of the global economy, attributing it largely to the rise of China and other powers.

The US document suggests that economic decline is overshadowed by a more significant threat of what it terms “civilizational erasure.” According to the strategy, if current trends continue, the continent may become unrecognizable within two decades.

Further analysis and commentary will be provided as this story develops.
