FFS Justifies Participation in Upcoming Elections

Algiers – The Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) has outlined its reasons for participating in the upcoming legislative and local elections. First Secretary Youcef Aouchiche stated on Friday that conscious and organized popular mobilization during these elections could mark a turning point, shifting from a policy of force to the force of policy.

Aouchiche, speaking at the opening of the National Council’s ordinary session, emphasized the need for truly representative institutions that reflect the will of the people, monitor the executive branch, and defend justice, reform, and change in the service of the supreme national interest. He asserted that Algeria requires a clear, realistic, inspiring, and credible political project, one embodied by a political class that reflects popular aspirations.

The FFS First Secretary stressed that democracy is not granted or imposed but built through practice, struggle, and gradual progress. He further clarified that democracy is not merely a formal procedure but a continuous process of political construction, participation, oversight, and accountability.

“Our goal is to offer our people a genuine political alternative, a path towards peaceful and democratic change, an alternative that breaks the inevitability of fate and opens the way for peaceful and democratic access to power,” Aouchiche stated, referencing Rousseau’s quote: “The people, subject to the law, should be its maker.”

While acknowledging the challenges, including the complexities of the current stage, the nature of the political system, the fragmentation of the political arena, and the depth of what he termed “social wounds,” Aouchiche affirmed the FFS’s commitment to participating in the elections. He rejected the notion of surrender, arguing that nothing is impossible for those who have not lost hope. He expressed his conviction that if the people decide to participate, change will become an inevitable reality.

Aouchiche highlighted that the Front of Socialist Forces, with its national and democratic roots, is advancing to embody this historic choice. “Our commitment remains steadfast to the essence of the principles of November and the unifying spirit of the Soummam Congress: freedom, justice, and democracy,” he concluded, emphasizing that the matter is not merely electoral but also intellectual and principled.
