In a significant show of solidarity with the Palestinian cause, Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad (MAE) has instructed all its foreign embassies and diplomatic missions to cancel the commemoration preparations for the anniversary of the glorious November 1st Revolution. This directive comes straight from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as revealed in a ministry statement released this Thursday.

According to the announcement, the sweeping cancellations apply to all preparations and related ceremonies for this year’s anniversary festivities. This unprecedented move underscores the Algerian people and state’s deep solidarity with their besieged Palestinian brethren in Gaza, who are currently enduring unjust aggression and a spate of crimes and massacres perpetrated by the occupying forces.

This solidarity extends beyond the MAE, as various other ministerial departments have taken similar stances. Following the violent confrontations in Gaza that erupted on October 7, claiming over 3,000 Palestinian lives, several sectors within Algeria have expressed their support.

The Ministry of Culture and Arts was the first to act, declaring a suspension of all festive-type activities until further notice last Friday. Following closely, the Ministry of Youth and Sports also suspended all competitions and sporting events. Adding to these gestures, the Ministry of Communication postponed the celebration of the National Press Day and the ceremony for the President of the Republic’s Professional Journalist Award.

In a resounding display of unity, spontaneous popular marches are unfolding across the country this Thursday in a powerful demonstration of solidarity with Palestine. This collective stand by Algeria reaffirms its unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle and marks a poignant moment in its diplomatic history.
