Nasri Criticizes Petkovic, Ait Nouri’s Situation Unsettled, Lekhal Monitored

Former French international Samir Nasri has voiced his concerns regarding the Algerian national team and its coach, Vladimir Petkovic. Speaking to Canal+ on the sidelines of a recent tournament draw, Nasri, when asked about Algeria, offered his perspective on the team’s current state, referring to them as ‘us,’ highlighting his connection to his ancestral homeland.

Nasri provided both technical and emotional insights, stating, ‘The draw was interesting. Argentina is the clear favorite in the group, and the other teams will compete for second place. When we face Argentina, we’ll try to use that match to prepare for the remaining games in this balanced group. I’m happy with Algeria’s draw, my country of origin, who will face Argentina with all the emotions that entails. Algerians greatly admire Argentina, Maradona, and Messi.’

However, Nasri was critical of Petkovic’s appointment. ‘I’m not impressed with Petkovic,’ he stated. ‘With a good coach, I think we could cause significant problems for Austria and maybe even qualify. We have a great group of players. Defensively, there are issues, and we also lack a striker who scores goals. There’s Gouiri, who will reclaim his place in the team, and there’s also Amoura. We’re waiting to see Mahrez and his condition. Overall, it’s a good team.’

Meanwhile, concerns are growing regarding Rayan Ait Nouri’s position within the national team. While his talent is undeniable, reports suggest that Petkovic might be considering other options for the left-back position.

In other news, the Algerian coaching staff is reportedly keeping a close eye on midfielder Victor Lekhal. Lekhal, who plays his club football in France, has been consistently performing well, and his potential inclusion in the national team squad is being actively evaluated.

Adding to the team’s concerns, Samir Chergui is currently sidelined with an injury. Despite initial reports suggesting a short recovery period, Chergui has yet to resume training with Paris FC. The French press indicates that his absence could extend for another week, leaving his participation in the upcoming national team camp in doubt. The clock is ticking for Chergui to regain fitness before the start of the official training camp.

DZWatch will continue to provide updates on these and other developments surrounding the Algerian national team.
