DZWatch Exclusive: Argentinian football icon Lionel Messi has commented on the 2026 World Cup draw, specifically addressing his national team’s upcoming match against Algeria. The draw placed Argentina in Group 10 alongside Algeria, Jordan, and Austria.
Speaking to Dsports during celebrations for his MLS title win with Inter Miami, Messi emphasized the importance of focusing on the group stage. “We must only think about the group stage and Argentina’s rivals in this stage,” he stated. “We also have to think that Argentina shouldn’t have a problem getting through this round, and then we will see what happens next.”
Messi also revealed how he followed the draw. “In truth, I followed the draw like all Argentinians, with some tension and nervousness when the balls appear, wondering who your rivals in the group stage will be.”
He added, “In those moments, you start to form an idea about some things. However, in the World Cup, things can happen very differently. Sometimes results occur that no one expects, and there are always surprises.”
The 2026 World Cup will be held next summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The highly anticipated tournament promises thrilling matches and unexpected outcomes, and all eyes will be on Argentina as they navigate their group stage challenges.
