Algeria’s Unemployment Benefit: Women Represent 71% of Recipients

Algiers – Women constitute the majority of beneficiaries of Algeria’s unemployment benefit program, representing 71% of the total recipients. This was revealed by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, highlighting a significant trend in the nation’s labor market.

The Minister of Labor, Abdelhak Saihi, announced the figures during a national conference dedicated to examining employment realities and assessing the mechanisms governing the unemployment grant. He stated that the program currently supports over 1.9 million individuals across Algeria’s various provinces.

Statistical breakdowns show that those without professional qualifications make up the largest segment of beneficiaries at 60%, followed by university graduates at 24%, and vocational training graduates at 16%. This diversity reflects the varied skill levels among job seekers in Algeria.

The Algerian government has allocated over 400 billion dinars annually to fund the unemployment benefit program. Projections indicate a potential increase to over 420 billion dinars by 2026, underscoring the nation’s commitment to social policies and providing temporary financial support to individuals seeking employment integration.

Observers suggest that the high percentage of female beneficiaries reflects women’s increasing participation in the labor force. However, challenges persist in securing employment opportunities, particularly within the public and private sectors.

The conference is expected to yield new strategies to link unemployment benefits with vocational training and qualification programs. This aims to facilitate the integration of female beneficiaries into permanent employment positions.
