Algeria Dominates Iraq, Secures Quarter-Final Berth Against UAE

Doha, Qatar – The Algerian national team secured its place in the quarter-finals of the Arab Cup in Qatar today, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Iraq. The win, played at the Khalifa International Stadium, cemented Algeria’s position at the top of Group D.

The match saw Algeria take the lead just before halftime, with Mohamed Amine Tougai scoring a powerful header in the 45+1 minute. The second goal came early in the second half, courtesy of an own goal resulting from a miscommunication between Iraqi goalkeeper Fahad Talib and defender Saad Natiq after a cross from Yacine Brahimi in the 46th minute.

Iraq faced an uphill battle throughout the match, playing with only 10 men after Hussein Ali was sent off in the 5th minute.

With this victory, Algeria finished atop Group D with 7 points, followed by Iraq with 6 points. Bahrain secured third place with 3 points, while Sudan finished fourth with a single point.

Looking ahead, Algeria is now set to face the United Arab Emirates in the quarter-finals this Saturday at 6:30 PM local time. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter as Algeria aims to continue its strong performance in the tournament and advance further.
