Algiers, December 10, 2025 – Algeria and Cuba are exploring avenues to strengthen their existing cooperation in several key healthcare sectors. Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Mesoudane, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Algeria, Hector Igarza Cabrera, at the ministry headquarters to discuss potential expansions to their long-standing partnership. Senior officials from the central administration were also present.
Both parties emphasized the deep historical ties between Algeria and Cuba, acknowledging the health cooperation between the two nations as a successful model of partnership serving their mutual interests. The Minister praised the performance of Cuban medical teams working in various health institutions across Algeria. He suggested that these teams could be strategically deployed to align with the specific health needs of each region, further strengthening local healthcare services.
Ambassador Cabrera expressed his pride in the robust bilateral relations between Algeria and Cuba, highlighting the health cooperation as a prime example of their partnership. He commended the integration of Algerian and Cuban medical teams and emphasized the potential for expanded collaboration in maternal and child health, particularly through the adoption of the ‘family doctor’ model, which has proven effective in prevention and continuous care.
Minister Ait Mesoudane proposed enhanced cooperation in telemedicine and medical imaging, aiming to broaden the utilization of Cuban expertise in these fields. This initiative seeks to extend the reach and impact of specialized medical services across Algeria.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the health partnership between Algeria and Cuba, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming session of the joint committee. This session is expected to be a pivotal moment for deepening cooperation and expanding its horizons to benefit both nations.
