Ukrainian forces claim to have destroyed a Russian Buk-M3 air defense system in the Zaporizhzhia region. According to Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), a special operations unit carried out the strike on December 6th, targeting the system near the village of Sviatotroitske, in Russian-controlled territory.
Footage purportedly showing the strike has been released. The HUR identified the unit responsible as “Primas,” stating they successfully tracked and engaged the surface-to-air missile system.
The alleged destruction of the Buk-M3 represents a significant blow to Russian air defenses. Reports suggest that Ukraine’s recent successes also include operations in Crimea. The HUR claims its forces have been systematically degrading Russian military assets on the peninsula, citing the destruction of a Su-24 bomber and an Orion drone among other targets.
The Buk-M3 is a medium-range air defense system designed to intercept aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. It is considered one of Russia’s most advanced defensive weapons, capable of tracking multiple targets simultaneously within a range of approximately 70 kilometers.
DZWatch is independently verifying these claims and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Update: Russia has yet to comment on the alleged destruction of the Buk-M3 system. The conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, with both sides claiming battlefield successes.
