Algeria and Greece Hold High-Level Talks in Athens

Athens, Greece – High-level Algerian-Greek discussions took place today in Athens, focusing on energy cooperation, economic partnerships, and regional issues. The talks were held as part of a broader effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, met with his Greek counterpart, George Gerapetritis, to discuss a range of topics critical to both countries. Both ministers emphasized the strong historical ties between Algeria and Greece, built on mutual trust, friendship, and solidarity.

A key focus of the discussion was the strategic importance of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Minister Attaf reiterated Algeria’s commitment to serving as a reliable and stable energy partner for Greece and the wider European continent. Algeria is a major gas supplier for Europe, and Greece is a key transit hub.

Beyond energy, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the expanding scope of cooperation to include new sectors such as maritime industries, health, innovation, and start-ups. They agreed to hold the third session of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation in Algeria early next year, signaling their intent to solidify these burgeoning partnerships.

On the multilateral front, the ministers recognized the successful coordination achieved during their respective tenures on the UN Security Council. They stressed the importance of continued joint efforts to promote stability in the Mediterranean region. Discussions also included updates on the Palestinian issue, the Western Sahara question, the Libyan crisis, and the security situation in the Sahel region.
