Senate President Nasseri Meets Interim Elections Authority Head

Algiers, December 10, 2025 – Senate President Azzouz Nasseri received Karim Khalfan, the interim head of the National Independent Elections Authority (ANIE), at the Senate headquarters today.

According to a statement released by the Senate, President Nasseri emphasized the importance of constructive coordination between various national institutions within the framework of participatory democracy. He stated that this collaboration is crucial for the success of the “Victorious Algeria” initiative, reinforcing good governance practices, and strengthening the national reform process.

During the meeting, Nasseri highlighted the Senate’s commitment to ensuring fair and transparent electoral processes, underscoring the vital role of the ANIE in upholding democratic principles.

Khalfan, on his part, expressed the ANIE’s readiness to continue open dialogue and consultation with all national constitutional institutions. He affirmed the authority’s commitment to strengthening democratic practices and fostering a culture of participation and responsibility.

The meeting took place ahead of a hearing by the Senate’s Committee on Legal and Administrative Affairs, Human Rights, Local Organization, Regional Planning, and Regional Division. Chaired by Mohamed Rabah, the committee is reviewing the proposed amendment to Law No. 84-09, dated February 4, 1984, concerning the country’s regional organization. Khalfan’s presence before the committee provides an opportunity to discuss the implications of the proposed amendments on the electoral process and ensure alignment with democratic standards.

This meeting underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and promote good governance in Algeria.
