Algeria Vaccinates Millions of Children Against Polio

Algiers, December 11, 2025 – Nearly four million children across Algeria have been vaccinated against polio during the first phase of a nationwide immunization campaign, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced that 3,823,066 children, aged between two months and five years, received the polio vaccine between November 30th and December 6th, 2025. This represents a 95% coverage rate, meeting the standards set by the World Health Organization.

“This significant achievement underscores the commitment of the Algerian government to safeguarding the health and well-being of its youngest citizens,” stated a ministry spokesperson.

The Ministry of Health is urging parents and guardians to ensure their children within the targeted age group receive the polio vaccine during the upcoming phases of the campaign. The second phase is scheduled to run from December 21st to December 27th, 2025, and the third phase from January 25th to January 31st, 2026.

All local health facilities equipped for vaccinations remain fully prepared to provide optimal conditions for receiving and administering the vaccine to children. The ministry emphasized its dedication to eradicating polio and protecting future generations from this debilitating disease.

The national polio vaccination campaign is a crucial component of Algeria’s ongoing efforts to maintain its polio-free status and contribute to global eradication initiatives. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely and adapt its strategies to ensure the highest levels of protection for all children in Algeria.
