Algiers, Algeria – Abdelkrim Benmabrouk, Secretary-General of the National Liberation Front (FLN), has reaffirmed his party’s unwavering commitment to the principles of the November 1st Declaration and to serving the Algerian people. His remarks came during a historical symposium commemorating the December 11, 1960 demonstrations.
Benmabrouk emphasized that these demonstrations were an extension of the revolutionary struggle established by the FLN since November 1, 1954. He described them as a well-planned popular movement, driven by a clear political vision aimed at asserting the Algerian people’s sovereignty over their land and their unwavering support for the FLN as their sole and legitimate representative.
“The demonstrations were rooted in national, spiritual, and political references that solidified the unity of the people around the FLN,” Benmabrouk stated. “They confronted the colonial project that sought to obliterate our identity and perpetuate the notion of ‘Algeria as France.’”
He further characterized the demonstrations as a popular uprising that brought the Algerian revolution to the forefront of international attention, contributing to the collapse of the colonial project and fostering a modern national consciousness that strengthened internal cohesion.
Benmabrouk highlighted the key objectives achieved by the demonstrations, including solidifying the independence of national decision-making, unifying the internal ranks, affirming the popular character of the armed revolution, and supporting the diplomatic efforts that paved the way for the Évian Accords.
The FLN, according to its Secretary-General, views the commemoration of national events as an educational and political activity aimed at enhancing awareness of the revolution’s history, instilling values of belonging, and building citizens capable of safeguarding the nation’s achievements. The party remains dedicated to upholding the legacy of the liberation struggle and working towards a prosperous future for all Algerians.
