Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several Algerian Regions

DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria is bracing for a period of unsettled weather as meteorological services anticipate continued atmospheric disturbances across the country. Rainfall is expected to persist intermittently in southern regions, while incoming low-pressure systems are forecast to bring heavy precipitation to western, northern, and southern areas.

On Monday, significant rainfall is predicted for certain southern regions before extending towards the northeastern areas in the evening, accompanied by cold, wintery conditions. Sunday is expected to bring thunderstorms to Béchar, Timimoun, and northern Beni Abbes provinces. Showers are also anticipated in western provinces such as Oran, Saida, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Tlemcen, and Chlef, as well as southern regions including Tamanrasset, In Salah, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar.

The meteorological services confirm that rainfall will continue on Monday, impacting In Salah, Tamanrasset, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, before spreading to El M’Ghair, Touggourt, Ouled Djellal, Biskra, El Oued, and Djanet. Rain is expected across most northern regions through Tuesday.

Furthermore, significant local thunderstorms are forecast for most northwestern, central, and eastern regions on Tuesday, with snowfall anticipated on most inland highlands. These disturbances are attributed to low-pressure systems originating from northwestern Europe, moving towards the northwestern and southern regions, bringing rainfall that is expected to last until Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Another low-pressure system is expected mid-week, accompanied by thunderstorms initially affecting the northwestern, central, and eastern regions. Higher elevations in the interior of the country are also expected to see snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Regarding temperatures, cold and frosty conditions will prevail across most northern regions, with minimum temperatures ranging between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius in the north and 7 to 15 degrees Celsius in the south. Daytime temperatures are expected to be seasonal along the coasts and in southern regions. Maximum temperatures will range from 9 to 13 degrees Celsius in inland areas, 17 to 21 degrees Celsius along the coast, and 17 to 29 degrees Celsius in the south.

DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
