Israeli Airstrikes Target Southern Lebanon Towns

Southern Lebanon has been the target of renewed Israeli military activity, with airstrikes reported in the towns of Shebaa and Yater. The incidents mark a further escalation of tensions in the region, already strained by ongoing concerns over potential large-scale Israeli military operations.

According to reports, an Israeli drone targeted a bulldozer in Shebaa, resulting in its complete destruction. A separate drone strike reportedly hit the outskirts of Yater. A Lebanese security source confirmed that the bulldozer was struck by three missiles, characterizing the incident as a violation of the ceasefire agreement established last year.

These events follow a night of intensified Israeli reconnaissance flights over the Tyre region, particularly above the town of Yanouh. A military presence remains near a residence in Yanouh that was threatened by Israel the previous day, with security forces maintaining checkpoints at the town’s entrances.

The Israeli military had initially planned a strike on a building in Yanouh but temporarily suspended the operation following a request from the Lebanese army. The request aimed to allow the Lebanese army to address what Israel described as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and to facilitate their access to the targeted site. The Israeli army has stated that it will continue to monitor the site and prevent Hezbollah from re-establishing a presence or re-arming.

A military spokesperson asserted that forces in the Southern Command are deployed in the area and will act swiftly to eliminate any perceived threats. The situation remains volatile, with heightened concerns regarding a potential large-scale Israeli offensive in Lebanon. Diplomatic efforts are reportedly underway to avert further escalation.
