Israel Claims Killing Hezbollah Operatives in South Lebanon Strikes

The Israeli military claims to have targeted and killed two Hezbollah operatives in a series of strikes in Southern Lebanon today. According to a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the individuals were allegedly involved in the rehabilitation of Hezbollah infrastructure, actions which the IDF contends violate agreements between Israel and Lebanon.

The IDF stated that the first strike targeted an individual in the town of Yater, accusing him of “rehabilitating Hezbollah infrastructure.” The second operative was reportedly killed in the Bint Jbeil area. The IDF described him as a “local Hezbollah representative coordinating military and economic affairs.” A third strike was also carried out, targeting another alleged Hezbollah member, with the results still under assessment.

As of yet, there has been no official response from Hezbollah regarding these claims.

In contrast, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reports that three people were killed in Israeli drone strikes. These deaths occurred in Yater, Safad al-Batikh, and Jouaiya in the Tyre district of Southern Lebanon. The ministry also reported one person injured. This incident is described as another Israeli violation of the ceasefire agreement established between the two sides over a year ago.

Reports indicate that Israeli drones also targeted the town of Shebaa in Southern Lebanon. A Lebanese security source stated that the drone strikes destroyed two vehicles and a bulldozer, resulting in casualties.

These developments occur amidst reports that the Israeli military has completed a plan for a “large-scale offensive” if the Lebanese government does not fulfill its alleged commitment to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025. This commitment supposedly stems from the ceasefire agreement, which stipulated Hezbollah’s withdrawal north of the Litani River and disarmament in exchange for the Israeli army’s withdrawal from positions advanced during the last conflict. Israel maintains control of five strategic locations within Lebanese territory, while Hezbollah refuses to disarm, asserting that any new war “will not achieve its objectives.”
