Algiers, Algeria – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Council of Ministers today, focusing on key issues including pension increases, the creation of new administrative districts, and the national strategy for developing e-commerce.
Following the presentation of the agenda and a summary of the previous Council of Ministers’ decisions, the Prime Minister presented a report on the government’s activities over the past two weeks. President Tebboune then issued directives on several important matters:
Pension and Retirement Benefits: The Council of Ministers approved a 10% increase for pensioners receiving 20,000 Algerian dinars or less. A 5% increase was approved for those receiving more than 20,000 dinars. These increases build upon previous adjustments to the guaranteed minimum wage.
New Administrative Districts: The cabinet approved the creation of two new administrative districts in Maghnia and El-Eulma.
National E-Commerce Strategy: President Tebboune emphasized the importance of e-commerce as a significant challenge requiring collective participation to achieve economic goals. He stressed the need for ensuring digital security, providing further facilitation, and encouraging trade in this sector. The President stated that commercial transparency is the primary objective and true benefit of digitalization and e-commerce.
General Directives: President Tebboune ordered a halt to the demolition of illegal housing during the winter months. He mandated the immediate suspension of mayors who resort to such actions during the winter, disregarding Algerian laws and international norms. Governors are instructed to ensure that any such operations are conducted within the specified legal frameworks.
Furthermore, the President instructed the Ministers of Agriculture and Interior to coordinate and implement measures to prevent losses for farmers due to market saturation of agricultural products. This includes utilizing strategic storage to maintain price stability.
