Algiers – The Algerian Council of Ministers, presided over by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has approved the creation of two new administrative districts and a moratorium on the demolition of illegal housing during the winter months. The decisions were made during a recent cabinet meeting focused on social, administrative, and economic matters.
The creation of the new districts, centered around the municipalities of Maghnia and El Eulma, aims to strengthen administrative divisions and improve local governance. This initiative intends to bring government services closer to citizens and support local development in these regions.
President Tebboune also issued strict instructions to halt all demolitions of unauthorized residences during the winter season. He emphasized the need to adhere to national laws and international norms in such matters. The President further directed that any mayors found to be carrying out demolitions during this sensitive period, without due regard for legal frameworks, should be immediately suspended from their duties.
The President underscored the crucial role of the Governors of the Republic in ensuring that any necessary demolition operations are conducted within the bounds of the law, with full consideration for humanitarian and social aspects. He stressed the importance of protecting citizens from any form of administrative abuse. The government is committed to ensuring fairness and upholding the rights of all citizens, while also addressing issues related to unauthorized construction in a responsible and lawful manner.
The meeting also included discussions on pension increases and the national strategy for developing e-commerce, reflecting the government’s broad agenda for economic and social progress.
