Algiers – Algeria has presented its disaster risk management performance review for 2024 and outlined its national strategy for 2025-2035. The announcement followed a meeting of the Joint Committee for Disaster Risk Prevention, held at the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport headquarters.
According to a ministry statement released Monday, the meeting, convened under the directives of the Minister, Mr. Said Saioud, and chaired by the National Delegate for Major Risks, included representatives from various ministries and agencies involved in disaster prevention and management.
Discussions centered on the 2024 annual report, highlighting prevention and intervention efforts. The national disaster risk management strategy for 2025-2035, designed to enhance proactive approaches and preparedness for various risks, was also presented.
The meeting also assessed the progress of committees responsible for preparing, updating, and implementing general prevention plans. Emphasis was placed on strengthening inter-sectoral coordination and adopting effective mechanisms to improve the efficiency of field interventions during emergencies.
This initiative underscores the Algerian government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its disaster risk prevention system. The goal is to improve the management of natural and industrial hazards, ultimately protecting lives and property and mitigating the impact of potential disasters.
