Algiers, Algeria – Several provinces across Algeria are bracing for a period of intense weather, with the National Meteorological Office issuing warnings for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The anticipated weather system is expected to bring significant precipitation and potential hailstorms to various regions throughout the country, beginning today, Monday, December 15, 2025.
A special weather bulletin indicates that the provinces of Tamanrasset, In Salah, Illizi, and Ouargla are expected to receive locally heavy thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts potentially reaching up to 40mm. These conditions are forecast to persist until 11:00 PM tonight.
Separate weather alerts have also been issued for the provinces of El Oued, Touggourt, El M’Ghair, and Ouled Djellal, where similar conditions are anticipated. Rainfall could reach 40mm locally, with a chance of hail. This period of inclement weather is expected to last until 3:00 AM on Tuesday.
Furthermore, the provinces of Biskra, Batna, Khenchela, and Tebessa are preparing for potentially heavier thunderstorms, with rainfall exceeding 60mm in some areas, accompanied by hail. These conditions are expected to begin at 9:00 AM today and continue until 6:00 AM on Tuesday.
The meteorological office also forecasts continued thunderstorms until midnight in the provinces of M’Sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, Tiaret, Ghardaia, El Menia, El Bayadh, Naama, Djanet, and Bechar.
Additional provinces, including Bouira, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, Mila, Constantine, Oum El Bouaghi, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Bejaia, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, and El Tarf, are expected to experience locally significant thunderstorms starting from midday today, lasting through the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution, particularly in the affected areas, and to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks associated with heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
