Trump Praises Syrian President, Denies Involvement in Attack

Washington D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his positive assessment of Syrian President Ahmed al-Shareh, describing him as a strong leader necessary for navigating a complex regional landscape. Speaking at a press conference at the White House, President Trump highlighted the significant changes in Syria and expressed satisfaction with the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad.

“He is a strong man in a tough part of the world, and that’s what we need,” President Trump stated, referring to President al-Shareh. “We got rid of Assad, and we got rid of others who were very bad and stood in the way of peace in the Middle East.”

President Trump emphasized the United States’ commitment to fostering lasting peace in the region, noting Syria’s integral role in achieving this objective. He further claimed that a genuine peace is emerging in the Middle East, “for the first time in 3,000 years.”

In a related development, President Trump reaffirmed his confidence in President al-Shareh following a recent attack in Syria that resulted in the deaths of American personnel. Responding to questions from reporters, President Trump asserted that the Syrian President had no connection to the attack, which occurred near the city of Palmyra in eastern Syria. He characterized the attack as a surprise incident in an area not fully under President al-Shareh’s control.

The U.S. President conveyed that his Syrian counterpart was deeply saddened by the attack, underscoring his continued trust in him. Reports indicate that Syrian and American forces were conducting a joint field patrol near Palmyra when they came under fire. Central Command (CENTCOM) attributed the attack to ISIS, stating that it resulted in the deaths of three Americans – two soldiers and one civilian – and injured three additional military personnel.
