Early Retirement Option for Workers in Seized Algerian Firms

Algiers – A new executive decree opens the door for early retirement for workers employed by economic enterprises seized by the Algerian state. The decree, signed by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, aims to address the situation of employees impacted by the confiscation of assets in corruption cases.

Executive Decree 25-312, dated December 1, 2025, outlines specific measures the state will undertake to support workers affected by the asset seizures. This action follows a joint report from the Ministers of Labor, Justice, and Finance, highlighting the need for a structured approach to assist these employees.

The decree specifically targets workers in economic enterprises subject to final judicial decisions involving the confiscation of assets due to corruption. This includes companies under court-appointed administration, those that have ceased operations entirely, or those forced to implement social plans due to the confiscations.

Key provisions of the decree include facilitating early retirement for eligible workers and providing unemployment insurance benefits. Furthermore, workers not meeting the requirements for early retirement or unemployment benefits will receive compensation for termination of employment.

The legally appointed administrator of the affected enterprise is responsible for submitting the necessary documentation for eligible workers to the relevant social security agencies. This ensures that affected employees can access the benefits and protections outlined in the new decree. The move is seen as a significant step in mitigating the social and economic impact of asset seizures on Algerian workers.
