Algeria Secures Key Post at Arab States Broadcasting Union

Tunis, December 16, 2025 – Algeria has been elected to the position of Director of the Arab News and Program Exchange Center of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), headquartered in Algiers. The election took place earlier today in Tunis.

The Algerian candidate, Mr. Adel Kensous, representing the nation’s television, radio, and broadcasting institutions, secured the position by acclamation. Mr. Kensous previously served as an assistant to the Director-General of Algerian Television. This endorsement followed the withdrawal of the Egyptian candidate in favor of Algeria on the eve of the 45th Ordinary Session of the ASBU General Assembly.

This unanimous support for the Algerian nominee follows intensive consultations by the Algerian delegation, represented by the Directors-General of the three institutions. The outcome underscores Algeria’s significant standing and influence within Arab and international organizations.

Notably, with this appointment, Algeria retains the directorship of the Arab Exchange Center, a position previously held by an Algerian national.

The General Assembly and its associated events provided an opportunity for the Director-General of Algerian Radio, Mr. Adel Sellagji, to hold bilateral meetings with heads of several Arab radio stations and professional organizations. These discussions focused on expanding and deepening cooperation and exchange.

Furthermore, Algeria, represented by its television, radio, and broadcasting institutions, has retained its membership on the Executive Council of the Arab States Broadcasting Union. The Director-General of Algerian Television, Mr. Mohamed Beghali, will also maintain his position on the Executive Office for Emergency Affairs.

This appointment reinforces Algeria’s commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation within the Arab media landscape.
