Algiers – Air Algérie is set to significantly expand its fleet with the acquisition of new aircraft, signaling a major investment in the nation’s air transport capabilities. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Sayoud, during a parliamentary session dedicated to discussing traffic law.
The national airline is expected to receive three wide-body aircraft before the end of the year. This acquisition is part of a broader initiative to modernize Air Algérie’s fleet, which includes the purchase of a total of 18 new large aircraft.
Minister Sayoud highlighted that the three incoming aircraft will complement the Airbus A330neo, with a capacity of 308 seats, which entered service last November. This addition will enhance the airline’s capacity for medium and long-haul flights, allowing for greater connectivity and service offerings.
Further expanding its domestic reach, Air Algérie is also acquiring 16 new ATR aircraft. Deliveries of these regional aircraft are scheduled to begin in June of next year. The ATRs will play a crucial role in strengthening the domestic air network, improving connections between various regions of Algeria, particularly in the interior and southern parts of the country.
This comprehensive modernization program underscores the government’s commitment to upgrading air transport infrastructure, meeting the growing demand for air travel, and enhancing the overall quality of service for passengers both domestically and internationally. The investment aims to position Air Algérie as a competitive player in the regional aviation market and facilitate greater connectivity within Algeria and beyond.
