Arab Parliamentary Union Condemns Colonial Interference

Cairo – Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union, has strongly condemned the continued interference of certain nations with a colonial past in the internal affairs of Arab states.

In a statement released Wednesday, Boughali expressed his vehement disapproval of these actions, which he described as a blatant violation of the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the norms of international law. These principles unequivocally affirm the sovereignty of nations and prohibit interference in their domestic matters.

“The persistent meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries by states with a history of colonialism is unacceptable,” Boughali stated. “It undermines the stability and progress of our region and disregards the fundamental rights of Arab nations to self-determination.”

Boughali emphasized that the Arab Parliamentary Union stands firmly against any form of external intervention that seeks to dictate the political or economic direction of Arab states. He called upon the international community to uphold the principles of sovereignty and non-interference, fostering an environment of mutual respect and cooperation among nations.

The statement underscores the growing concern within the Arab world regarding external influences that are perceived as detrimental to regional stability and national sovereignty. The Arab Parliamentary Union, as a representative body of Arab parliaments, is committed to advocating for the rights and interests of Arab nations on the global stage.

The remarks were made during a session of the Arab Parliamentary Union held in Cairo, where discussions focused on a range of issues affecting the Arab world, including political stability, economic development, and regional security. The issue of foreign interference was a central theme, reflecting the shared concerns of Arab parliamentarians regarding the challenges facing the region.
