Chad Delegation Visits Sonelgaz to Boost Electricity Cooperation

A high-level delegation from Chad, led by the Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, recently visited the National Control Center of Sonelgaz as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Chad in the energy sector.

The delegation included representatives from the Chadian Hydrocarbons Company (SHT), the Chadian Petroleum Company (TPC), the National Mining Exploration and Marketing Company (SONEMIC), the Petroleum Sector Regulatory Authority (ARSAT), and the Chadian Higher Institute of Petroleum (INSPEM). They were received by the General Manager of the System Operator, Maaziz Sid Ali, and the Assistant General Manager, Ayadi Omrane.

During the visit, the Chadian delegation received detailed explanations about the management of the national electricity grid and the technical capabilities of Sonelgaz – Electricity Transmission and System Operator. Discussions covered mechanisms for balancing production and consumption, ensuring the continuous supply of electricity to domestic and industrial customers, electricity exports to Tunisia, and the North-South electricity interconnection project.

The Algerian side presented an overview of the modern technological systems and applications used in the new grid, which allow for keeping pace with network expansion and the integration of renewable energy sources. This opens up broad prospects for international electricity exchanges. Sonelgaz also highlighted its training programs offered to African countries.

At the conclusion of the visit, Minister Naïmbaye expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the warm welcome, praising Algeria’s advanced expertise in the field of electricity transmission and management. She also acknowledged the technical capabilities of Sonelgaz, recording her remarks in the company’s guestbook. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhanced collaboration in the vital energy sector.

The discussions are expected to pave the way for concrete projects and initiatives that will benefit both countries.
