Civil Protection units across Algeria responded to 2,908 incidents in the last 24 hours, averaging one intervention every 29 seconds. These rapid responses underscore the critical role the agency plays in ensuring public safety.
The interventions included 2,117 medical evacuations and 468 diverse operations, initiated by emergency calls from citizens throughout the country. Incidents ranged from traffic accidents and domestic incidents to medical assistance, fire suppression, and support for security forces.
Specifically, Civil Protection services addressed 158 traffic accidents, tragically resulting in 3 fatalities and injuries to 177 individuals. Paramedics provided on-site first aid before transporting the injured to local hospitals. A particularly severe accident occurred in Laghouat, on National Road 23 near Aflou, where a collision between two vehicles resulted in one death and four injuries.
Furthermore, Civil Protection teams administered first aid to 18 people suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty heating systems and water heaters. These incidents occurred in Naama (5 people), Tissemsilt (4 people), El Bayadh (1 person), Mila (2 people), Constantine (1 person), Tlemcen (1 person), and Guelma (1 person). All victims received immediate care and were subsequently transferred to local medical facilities.
In the realm of fire safety, units extinguished four urban fires in Constantine, Mostaganem, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and Guelma. Sadly, one fatality was reported in Constantine, while seven individuals suffered from respiratory difficulties and psychological trauma. Firefighters successfully contained the blazes, preventing their spread to adjacent areas.
In Guelma, Civil Protection personnel rescued an individual from a 20-meter deep pit in the El M’ina El Borma-Djebel Dbagh area. First aid was administered before the victim’s transfer to a local hospital. Additionally, in Bejaia, teams responded to the collapse of a ground-level dwelling due to a landslide in the Bouzerman area; fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Concerning weather-related incidents, Civil Protection teams in Beni Abbes rescued six people stranded in four trucks, a car, and a crane in Oued Ed Doura. In El Bayadh, two individuals in shock were rescued in the commune of El Benoud, and three others were rescued from a truck stuck in Oued Berrmad in the commune of El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh. All victims received medical attention and were transported to local hospitals.
