Algiers, Algeria – A high-level meeting between Algerian and Chadian officials took place in Algiers on Thursday, December 18, 2025, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the mining sector. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines headquarters.
The Chadian delegation was led by the Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, and included senior officials from the petroleum and mining sectors. Representing Algeria was the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, along with high-ranking officials and representatives from key national mining entities such as Sonarem, the National Agency for Mining Activities, the Geological Survey Agency of Algeria, and the National Office for Geological and Mining Research.
The discussions centered on developing bilateral cooperation across the mining value chain. This included exploring opportunities in the exploitation and processing of mineral resources, geological research and studies, and geological and mining mapping. Emphasis was placed on the exchange of expertise in training, administrative organization, and the modernization of legal frameworks governing mining activities.
During the session, the Algerian Secretary of State presented a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of the mining sector in Algeria. She highlighted the sector’s institutional structure and the roles of various affiliated bodies.
The new legal framework for mining activities was also discussed, part of a government strategy aimed at modernizing the legal and institutional system, encouraging investment, and strengthening national sovereignty over natural resources. The Algerian official affirmed Algeria’s readiness to share its technical and organizational expertise with Chad, particularly in geological research, mapping, digitization, and the legal regulation of mining activities, to contribute to the development of Chad’s mining sector.
