Morocco Launches Aid Operation for Families Hit by Cold Wave

Morocco has initiated a humanitarian operation aimed at supporting 963 families residing in mountainous areas of the Al Haouz province in the north. The initiative seeks to alleviate the impact of a severe cold wave accompanied by heavy rainfall and snowfall.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is spearheading the operation. According to reports, the beneficiary families have received essential food supplies and blankets. Three field teams, composed of personnel from the Royal Armed Forces, are distributing the aid.

Sanaa DardiKh, Communications Director at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, stated that the foundation has commenced the distribution of humanitarian aid to affected residents across the designated areas. Priority is being given to regions most severely impacted by the ongoing cold weather conditions.

In recent days, several cities have experienced heavy rainfall and substantial snowfall. Recent floods in the city of Safi resulted in the tragic loss of 37 lives, according to an official statement released last Monday.

Meteorological authorities reported on Wednesday evening that the country had witnessed heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds, as well as snowfall starting at altitudes of 1500 meters, and generally cold weather conditions.

Earlier warnings from weather services highlighted the danger of high waves along the coast due to a deep low-pressure system accompanied by strong winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, urging caution.

The aid operation underscores Morocco’s commitment to supporting its citizens during periods of harsh weather and ensuring the well-being of vulnerable communities.
